I’m a huge fan of everything fall and when the weather starts to cool down I love to continue our love of smoothies and juicing by using fall flavors. This pumpkin smoothie for kids is even more fun when served in a clear cup with a pumpkin face. I just used a plastic cup and sharpie.
Pumpkin is a great source of potassium and beta-carotene as well as calcium and magnesium. Although this recipe does call for honey, there’s no refined sugar in it so you can feel good making this for yourself or your children.
If you’ve never made a smoothie with pumpkin, it actually goes quite nicely as long as it is paired with other ingredients as it can be a little bland on its own. The banana and pumpkin go great together and the honey gives it just enough sweetness. This recipe is also a great way to use up extra pumpkin puree from baking.
What ingredients are needed to make this smoothie?
To make this smoothie, you will need:
- Almond milk (may substitute milk of your preference but almond milk goes nicely with the pumpkin)
- Frozen banana
- Pumpkin puree
- Honey
- Nutmeg
- Cinnamon
- Pumpkin pie spice
- Vanilla extract
Please remember that children younger than 12 months should not have honey. If you don’t have any almond milk on hand you can use milk of your preference but almond milk does pair nicely with the banana and the pumpkin. I have found that frozen banana is also really good but you can use a regular banana if that’s what you have on hand but I do suggest adding a little ice for a better and colder smoothie.
